Low/No Cost Conservation Measures

Below is a short list of conservation measures and practices that many of us are familiar with. Many of these procedures cost little or no money and "payback time" is minimal.

  • Ensure Your Home Is Properly Insulated

  • Have Your A/C-Heating System - Regularly Maintained By A Professional

  • Install Compact Fluorescent (CFL) Bulbs in as many fixtures as possible

  • Keep your A/C - Heating System Filter Clean

  • Use A Programmable Thermostat


  • Properly set Thermostat to minimize energy use in heating/cooling seasons

  • Seal Duct Leaks

  • Use Ventilation Fans Only As Needed

  • Where applicable Plant Trees For Shade to assist in cooling

  • Use Ceiling Fans To Cool Your House

  • Provide Shading For Your Air Conditioning Condenser

  • Repair any Leaky Faucets

  • Choose Low-Flow Showerheads And Faucets

  • Insulate Water Heater And Hot Water Pipes

  • Set Your Water Heater At 120 Degrees

  • Drain Sediment From Your Water Heater Tank


  • Turn Your Water Heater Down When You Leave Town

  • Clean Your Refrigerator Coils

  • Keep Your Fireplace Damper Closed
